AWARD-WINNING hip-hop DJ Boitumelo Mooi was laid to rest on Friday, 11 March.

The media personality, affectionately known as DJ Dimplez, died earlier this week due to brain haemorrhage.

During the private funeral service, his friends and family took turns to express their loss and how his sudden death left them devastated.

Speaking on behalf of the family, David described the late DJ as a gentle giant.

He said he was admitted to hospital on 5 March and when they arrived, they couldn’t communicate with him because of his condition.

He further shared that doctors informed them that he was brain dead as his condition was dire, so the family decided to turn off life support.

The late DJ’s long-term friend Kagiso “DJ Milkshake” Mabelane said he couldn’t believe that he was no more.

The service concluded with family member Palesa reading out a message from her parents, sharing how proud they were of their son and the man he had become.

“On 31 August, there was glee; a new-found happiness in our home when our son, Boitumelo, was born. As parents, God gives us a duty to raise and pray for our children and bring them up prayerfully in the ways of the Lord – a duty we have carried to the best of our ability.

“We thought we knew you pop, better than anyone else – your hopes, dreams and aspirations. In the past few days, we have been visited by many of your friends and associates, and we’ve realised that there was so much more to you, our son. You were far more greater than we ever imagined. We thank you for all you have done, Tumi, not only for us but for the people around you,” the message read in part.
