The Zimbabwe’s Presidential Goat Scheme is set to distribute one male goat per village countrywide. These male goats will be electronically tagged in order to trace their movement and to ensure accountability.
After the introduction of this scheme by the president, Emerson Mnangagwa, The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development also said that one she goat will be distributed per household.
This scheme was introduced in 2022 by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the program aims to distribute 632,000 goats with improved genetics throughout the country.
Each of the 35,000 villages was slated to receive goats to vulnerable families in every village. This program has so far managed to distribute goats to 4,400 households, resulting in a 14 percent growth in production. The program is part of the Government’s timely interventions to accelerate rural development and achieve an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
