In a significant boost for women’s football in Zimbabwe, prominent football enthusiast Prophet Walter Magaya has stepped forward with a generous sponsorship. The top-flight women’s soccer league, previously facing financial challenges, is set to receive a lifeline through the Prophets intervention.
The league, which will now be known as the Heart League, is eagerly anticipating the unveiling of the US$320,000 sponsorship deal this Friday. This injection of funds is expected to address the perennial financial crisis that has plagued women’s football in the country.
Many teams within the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League have struggled to secure funds for match officials, leading to fixture delays and financial uncertainty. The Prophet’s commitment aims to change this narrative, providing much-needed stability.
Prophet Walter Magaya, who also owns the Premier Soccer League team Yadah Stars, expressed his optimism about the future of women’s football. “We believe in the potential of our female athletes, and this sponsorship is a testament to our commitment,” he stated.
