Aaron Chaka, who claims to be the son of the late music mogul Oliver Mtukudzi was denied entry at the gate to the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of Arts this past weekend.
The Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of Arts, held at Pakare Paye Arts Centre, was marred by controversy and drama as the event, organized by Tuku Music, was a two-day celebration to honor the legacy of the late music icon, Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi, who passed away five years ago. Despite the passage of time, the impact of his music and contributions to the arts continues to resonate deeply within the community.
This incident follows Chaka’s ongoing legal battle to be recognized as part of the Mtukudzi family, a case that made headlines in July.
Adding to the festival’s drama, the initial lineup of performers did not include Selma Mtukudzi, one of Mtukudzi’s biological child. After widespread speculation and discussions on social media, Selma was eventually added to the list of performers, much to the relief of many fans.
The festival, intended as an annual event, aims to celebrate and preserve Mtukudzi’s rich musical heritage. However, the organizers hope to resolve internal family disputes in future editions to avoid turning the event into a public spectacle
