On Monday, American Idol brought on the duets round which then resulted in quite a few big surprises. However, one moment that surprised everyone was completely out of the the performance.
This week, contestants were divided into pairs, selected by the judges, to perform duets. Some managed to work well while others struggled with mismatched and conflicting personalities.
However, for Ronda Felton and Funke Lagoke, their partnership in rehearsals was one of mutual respect and support. Lagoke assisted Felton in overcoming some of her insecurities and make a beautiful performance of “Tell Him,” originally written and recorded by Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion.
Judges huddled together after the performance, as Lagoke and Felton stood on stage, ready to receive news of whether or not they would be continuing to the next stage or going home.
Katy Perry admitted that she felt Lagoke “wasn’t perfect,” while Luke Bryan said the songstress had grown on her and he wanted to see more of what she could do. This left Lagoke’s fate in Lionel Richie’s hands.
Richie began to give feedback which included some criticism for both singers — Lagoke seemed to sway a bit before reaching her hand to her face, and as Richie opened his mouth to speak, the songstress completely fainted, falling hard, face first onto the stage.
