According to Nehanda radio Linda Masarira, the President of the Labour, Economists, and African Democrats (LEAD) party, was reportedly beaten up by her husband, Bongani Mlotshwa, following a domestic dispute at their home over the weekend.
The incident allegedly occurred after Masarira found her 22-year-old daughter, Kupakwashe Masarira, and her husband in a compromising position inside their house.
As a result of the assault, Masarira was admitted to hospital and is currently recovering from her injuries.
A close source revealed that she almost lost her eye due to the severity of the attack.
“I just received the information that our sister Linda Masarira is recovering from home after almost losing her eye due to GBV in the hands of husband, Bongani Mlotshwa.
“This came after Linda found Bongani having intimacy with her 22 year old daughter, Kupa. We condemn GBV,” an X user only identified as African Delinquent posted on the social media platform.
The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the need for support services for victims of abuse.
GBV support groups have been urged to stand up and request justice in the matter.
“GBV support groups must stand up and request justice on the matter. Bongani is currently at Hatfield police,” the source said.
Mlotshwa has since been arrested and is at Hatfield police station charged with domestic violence under RRB 5886197.
Masarira’s daughter, Kupakwashe, has reportedly fled the family home, and her whereabouts are currently unknown. Masarira did not respond to requests for a comment on the incident.
