The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has blamed the Versatile College School bus driver for the collision that happened in the morning (Wednesday), where the school bus was hit by a goods train, injuring 12 students on board.

This unfortunate accident happened at the Wilton Level Crossing in the Willowton industrial area. According to NRZ’s statement, the accident was caused by the bus driver’s failure to adhere to level crossing safety protocols.

In a statement that confirmed the accident, NRZ stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the bus driver failed to follow level crossing rules and tried to beat the train to the level crossing, resulting in the accident.

NRZ also urged drivers go exercise caution and to adhere to road rules that apply at level crossings.
