Two young men have been arrested for assaulting a police officer who was on duty along Forbes Road in Harare in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred when the officer and his colleague attempted to handcuff the driver of a vehicle while it was still in motion, leading to a confrontation.
During the altercation, the vehicle crashed into a nearby residential durawall, causing damage. While one of the officers fled the scene, the other was subjected to a severe beating by the enraged young men.
A video capturing the assault circulated online, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the perpetrators. While many have condemned the actions of the police officers involved, urging the public to refrain from attacking law enforcement officials, investigations into the incident are ongoing.
